Kemijoki Oy partners with Caverion for the operation and maintenance of hydroelectric power plants in Southern Finland

Kemijoki Oy has chosen Caverion as its partner for the operation, maintenance and operational control of its Anjalankoski and Inkeroinen hydroelectric power plants located on the Kymijoki river in Southern Finland.

The contract period starting in May 2025 is a continuation of the partnership that has continued for a long time in the Kemijoki and Lieksanjoki areas in Finland.

“In the future, Caverion will ensure operational reliability of Kemijoki Oy’s hydroelectric power plants in the Kymijoki area. When choosing an operation and maintenance partner, hydropower expertise, local presence, and digital analytics services are particularly important to us. The high availability and long-term development of power plants require our partner to have good knowledge of the special characteristics of hydropower and be committed to training new experts," says Tuomas Timonen, CEO of Kemijoki Oy.

Pioneering hydropower expertise

Safety, security of supply and maintenance, cost-efficiency and ethical business principles are the foundation of Kemijoki Oy’s sustainability. Pioneering hydropower expertise is key to achieving the goals in the partnership.

"We are also introducing our artificial intelligence-based analytics service, Caverion Intelligence, to the partnership, which can help detect anomalies in advance and anticipate process disruptions. This is a great example of collaboration where our advisory services are combined with more traditional hydropower maintenance services," says Laura Karotie, Head of Partnerships and Advisory Services, Caverion Finland.

Hydropower is the most important form of renewable electricity production in Finland. Kemijoki Oy is the most significant producer of hydropower and regulating power in the country. Kemijoki Oy operates as an expert and commissioner organisation of hydropower production. Their operating model is based on partnerships: Kemijoki Oy acquires most of their operations from service providers. Together with its partners, Kemijoki Oy maintains, for example, self-sufficiency and security of supply in electricity production, strengthens regional employment and is a multi-skilled expert in hydropower.
