Caverion implements building systems for the rehabilitation of an office building known as “the big workshop” occupied by the Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE) in the Pasila district in Helsinki. The client in the project is the main contractor FIRA Oy, and the value of the contract is EUR 11.7 million. The developer is YLE Pension Fund.
The project has been developed in cooperation with FIRA. “We have implemented several projects with Caverion, and our project teams have worked together to achieve common goals,” says Pekka Sipponen, Project Manager at FIRA.
Caverion’s delivery covers all building systems for the property: Heating and Sanitation, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, Cooling, Electricity, Information and Communication Services, Security and Safety, and Automation.
The energy efficiency of the building will be improved by renewing the building systems and, among others, harnessing renewable energy. Caverion will deliver a solar power system to the roof of the building, and the aim is that the system will produce a significant part of the electricity used by the ventilation machine room.
“Our good cooperation with FIRA will continue in this project, and our project personnel has had joint efforts to develop practices. With the same team, we also completed the rehabilitation of Elisa Headquarters,” says Ville Tamminen, head of division Finland of Caverion.
The modification work covers 22,750 gross square metres. The office premises will be used by YLE Pension Fund and as the headquarters of VR Group. The planning work and project development was launched in autumn 2016 and the works started early this year. The premises are scheduled to be finalised in April 2018.
