Customer's needs

  • The building systems in the industrial building Fjalar, located in central Uppsala and built in the 1860s, had become outdated, and the property owner Vasakronan needed to invest in a new energy supply solution.

  • Vasakronan required a climate-friendly, energy-efficient CO2 solution that would deliver clear energy savings.

Solutions

  • The CO2 machine itself, the reversible heat pump, is compact and fits into a smaller technical room.
  • The machine produces continuously adjustable cooling, heating, and hot water for the property's tenants.
  • The energy supply system is controlled and managed through Caverion's intelligent automation solution, iTop. iTop gathers information from all control units in the system to optimise overall performance and energy efficiency, including the cooling system, heat recovery, and integration with building automation.

Vasakronan is Sweden's largest real estate company, with a property portfolio consisting of 167 properties and a total area of 2.4 million square meters. They own, manage, and develop centrally located office and retail properties in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, and Uppsala, with the majority of their holdings situated in Stockholm.

Vasakronan expects that the installation of Caverion Energy Balance will reduce the energy consumption of the industrial property from 140 kWh per square meter per year to 35-40 kWh per square meter per year. This is remarkably low for a building constructed in the 1880s
